10 Happy Things for July

HAPPY JULY!

How wonderful is this last day of school photoshoot? The family’s oldest son is moving onto middle school next year, so they wanted photos to remember the last day he would ride the bus with his younger sister.

I especially loved arriving a little early and capturing some quality time between the two youngest brothers before their older siblings came home.

Also, if you're looking for ways to celebrate the 4th around DC, there are some great suggestions here.

10 HAPPY THINGS

As always, this list is pretty random, but hopefully something on it will bring you joy!
-------
1. I'm obsessed with Lora Webb Nichols' beautiful documentary photos of the "wild west" from the early 1900s (especially the ones that highlight women and families). More here.
-------
2. Currently Reading. Watching (movie)(so good!!) Watching (TV). Listening (music). Listening (podcast)( thanks Linda for the rec!)

Also, NY Times - best songs of 2024 (so far).
-------
3. OMG - this wedding dress!!!
------
4. Dan and I just spent our 19 year wedding anniversary in NYC and I was so excited to see this exhibit. Also, I know I'm late to the game, but this play was so fun.

-------
5. linden, cherries, and saggy neck

And soft girl summer
-------
6. Not happy at all - if there are limits to war, they have yet to be defined

------
7. Picnic season. Also, doesn't this salad look good (and easy)? And 5 ingredients or less.
-------
8. Aren't these AI created sweaters beautiful?
-------
9. NY Times - 25 Photos that defined the modern age (lots of surprises here).

Also, how great is this photo?
-------
10. Awkwardly relatable.

------

11. I enjoyed this essay on the new weight loss drugs.

Also, did anyone else read the weird New Yorker story about how Ye (ie Kanyne West) destroyed an a 57.3 million dollar home? (so many thoughts).

Darcy is truly a remarkable person and photographer! She has a special way of capturing the unique personalities of the people she’s photographing (which is very hard to do), and the results are always beautiful. Just take a look at her website and see for yourself! She’s also caring and passionate when interacting with others. My husband and I met her over 5 years ago to do our engagement photos and photograph our wedding, and she still remembered us and details about our family (including our pet turtles) when we asked her to do our family photoshoot recently. We couldn’t have been more pleased with the way the session went. She was patient with our two small children, coming up with creative ways to keep them focused. She was also punctual despite the session occurring in the middle of rush hour traffic and an hour away. She is truly a gem! Whenever I interact with her, she’s always positive and professional. She has tremendous talent and is truly one of a kind! I hope many others have the opportunity to work with her and experience her unique style. - Erika

We loved working with Darcy. It was so easy to be around her during our wedding, which was important to us as a couple who isn't the biggest fan of having our photos taken. She was super professional and took both portraits and joyful candid photos of us and all our guests. She and her team managed to get a candid, lovely photo of every single one of our guests without having to make us pose with them all night. We're an interracial couple and we were worried about having photos where only one of us was well lit. Darcy did a great job of making both of us, and all our guests of different backgrounds, look great. We love our photos! - Joelle

Darcy was absolutely phenomenal as our wedding photographer. From the beginning, I loved her approach to wedding photography. As a bride who hates posing for pictures, I was honestly worried about spending an excessive amount of time on photos. Darcy totally understood my concern and was incredibly flexible and adaptable. She worked very quickly - ensuring we got some key shots while giving us maximum time to really experience the event. The weddings photos are absolutely stunning. Tons of beautiful candids as well as those posed shots we wanted to get. I enjoyed being around Darcy - it was a very comfortable experience. We got quotes from a number of photographers and felt like for what she delivered, her pricing was extremely reasonable. I could not recommend her more. - Sara
