10 Happy Things for December
/HAPPY DECEMBER!
I'm looking forward to evergreen everywhere and dark, snowy days.
What about everyone else?
10 HAPPY THINGS
As always, this list is pretty random, but hopefully something on it will bring you joy!
-------
1. I'm (sadly) not musical at all, but Adrianne Lenker's songwriting course sounds wonderful.
-------
2. I love a good list - NPR's Yearly Books We Love. NY Times' 100 Notable Books of 2023. Time Magazine's 100 Must-Reads of 2023. The 50 best places to travel in 2024. (How cool do the Peruvian women only hiking trip sound?). New Yorker's Best Books (2023). New Yorker's Best Podcasts(2023). Harper's Bazaar 45 Best New Books of 2023.
Also, currently Reading. Watching. Listening.
-------
3. I'm so excited to be included in my FAVORITE holiday gift guide!!!
------
4. Last month, Dan and I spent a weekend in Paris & Iceland (and finally saw the Northern Lights). You can see some of the photos here.
Further, on the subject of marriage, these five questions are quite good.
-------
5. Made me laugh.
-------
6. The case for leaving strangers in your family photos.
-------
7. I recently blogged some new wedding, engagement and family sessions. Click here to check it all out (if you're considering hiring me as a photographer I HIGHLY RECOMMEND perusing my work first).
-------
8. Best holiday teas in the DC area. And lots more ideas for things to do this holiday season.
Also, I really want to spend an evening on DC's hot tub boat. And another one at Georgetown Glow.
-------
9. As always, Pinhole Press** makes my absolute favorite holiday cards and this year's selection is especially wonderful. Use the code DARCY15 for 15% off.
------
10. I love the idea of an international glossary of happiness.
------
** I sometimes receive financial incentives for some of the items I promote, but the opinions expressed are entirely my own.
BUSINESS ANNOUNCEMENT -
2% OF MY NET PROFITS FROM 2023 WILL GO TO THE ACLU & PLANNED PARENTHOOD
I'm not sure how to make any sort of difference in the world, but at the very least, I can start publicly giving money to causes I care about. I know 2% isn't a ton of money, but at least it's a start.
Do you have causes you care about? This is a reminder that I offer a pay-it-forward discount for families (see question #22) where you receive $50 off the cost of your session if you give the money to charity.
I also offer a similar, but larger discount for weddings clients. Contact me for details.

-------

RECENT REVIEWS
As cliched as it sounds, reviews mean the world to small businesses like mine - so THANK YOU again to everyone who wrote one!!

"My boyfriend worked with Darcy to plan our engagement photos. It was a complete surprise. The photos were incredible and she caught so many perfect moments. I kept thinking in my head, it's so windy and I wasn't prepared for this, we aren't going to get good shots. I was completely wrong, Darcy found a way to capture everything perfectly. I like that she also was attentive to things like "sunglasses off now, move your phone from your jacket pocket cause it's causing your jacket to flair out...etc". She was super kind and made us feel so comfortable. She also worked extremely fast to get us photos the same night so we could share with friends, family...etc. Thank you Darcy! You weren't just our photographer, you were someone who became a part of a very special night for us!" - Cody

"My husband and I can’t say enough nice things about Darcy Troutman Photography. From first meeting we felt like a life long friend would be capturing our important day. From engagement session to wedding day it was a flawless experience. Darcy has a vibrant personality and knows how to connect with clients which puts wallflowers like me at ease. We had a list of photographers to see, Darcy was first on the list…the list disappeared. No question, we had found our photographer. Here are a few tags, quality, professional, stunning, and heartfelt. Thanks Darcy! One million star review." - Nicholas

"Darcy is the sweetest and most talented person you could ever ask for. We worked with her for both our engagement and wedding photos and they were everything and more! As a camera-shy couple, we tend to get really uncomfortable in front of the lens but Darcy really made it feel so easy and natural. The way she looks at the world is truly so beautiful. She has the coziest vibe and that translates in her work. She is just the best and everyone should want to be her best friend!!!" - Jennifer
