10 Happy Things for May
/HAPPY MAY!!
This weather is AMAZING, hopefully you can all find time to get outside and enjoy it!
(and by the way mustaches & chalk bombs = family photography wonderfulness).
10 HAPPY THINGS
As always, this list is pretty random, but hopefully something will make you smile.
-------
1. Spring in DC
(so many great ideas!!)
I also can't wait to check out Georgetown Glow this month
(has anyone been yet?)
Further, has anyone experienced Soundwalk at Wolftrap? It sounds really cool. Also, did you see that live music returns to Wolftrap this summer?
Or how about adult mini golf (with booze)?
Also excited to see this photography exhibit at the National Museum of Women in the Arts.
Further, all the info on DC museums reopening.
-------
2. These murals are everything.
-------
3. Currently reading this. and this. and this.
(And LOVING all three books (though they are VERY different)).
-------
4. What does love look like in a time of hate?
Asian American photographers respond.
-------
5. Lots of new engagements, families, and weddings on my blog!
Click here to check them out!
-------
6. Does anyone else subscribe to Jessica Stanley's substack?
She always finds the best articles.
And/or for music lovers, the 9:30 club sends out a great monthly newsletter (lots of links).
-------
7. Mothers Day cookies for a good cause
(full disclosure - I'm a little biased as my photos are on the tin).
Also, a really good Mothers Day gift guide.
-------
8. If you haven't watched Ted Lasso yet, maybe this will convince you to give it a try.
-------
9. Spring cocktails.
-------
10. Pandemic New Yorker covers - which is your favorite?
I'm stuck between the hospital worker's spouse sending her photos of the kids and the online date night with a martini glass and slippers.
-------

REGARDING COVID
A few weeks ago I received the first does of the Moderna vaccine (yay!!).
My second dose is scheduled for mid-May.
Regarding your safety during sessions,
I always wear a mask (both inside and outside) and sanitize myself (so. much. hand. sanitizer.) and my gear.
I also try to keep a distance between myself and others.
If you have any questions and/or if there's anything I can do to make you feel safer - please let me know!!
RECENT TESTIMONIALS (SORT OF)
I usually use this space to share google and weddingwire testimonoials, which I love (THANK YOU AGAIN to everyone who wrote one!!).
But some of my favorite testimonials are from people who don't write reviews.
At the beginning of April, I photographed the K family and some of their friends. Their 8 year old daughter, Clara, introduced me to everyone by saying, "this is our friend, Darcy, she takes our photos sometimes. Maybe if you're nice to her she'll take your photos too. How does that work, Darcy?"
Then later last month, I photographed the V family. At the end of the their mini session all three kids said to me, "wow, that was so much fun! when can we do it again?"
I CAN'T EXPLAIN HOW HAPPY THESE KIDS MADE ME!
I hope (fingers crossed) that years later, your children will one day look back at their photos (maybe with their own children) and, rather than remember being forced to dress up and pose, they'll recall how much fun you had as a family, together. How much love was there.
So, please remember - the goal isn't to have the perfect outfit. Or the perfect photo (though we will try). The goal is to be yourselves. To have fun. To take time and enjoy each other.
YOUR LIFE MAY NOT BE PERFECT, BUT IT'S A GOOD LIFE - ONE WORTH REMEMBERING.
PLEASE GET VACCINATED (IF YOU CAN) AND HAVE A GREAT MONTH!!!
