Hanging at Home & Walking to the Park - Family Photos in the Neighborhood (Arlington, VA)
/When T (the mom of the J family) emailed me she wrote that what matters to her is, “real smiles or no smiles. Fake smiles are the worst”, which (of course) made me happy as I like real. The funny part is that everyone kept laughing, all the time, so no fake smiles occurred. The J family clearly loves spending time together.
A, the youngest son, is on the autism spectrum - plus he’s blind and non-verbal, and I was somewhat nervous I wouldn’t be able to capture his personality (not that you can ever truly capture anyone’s personality in a few hours), but it was so easy to see what makes him happy - he loves motion, of any kind. So we played on swings and photographed him on his spinner. And A bonding with his older brother, S, who I could totally relate to as a fellow bookworm.
I know I only spent a few hours with the J family, but I really loved meeting them. Such a great way to spend an afternoon!
