A Snow-Filled Day Exploring Glenstone Art Museum & Sculpture Garden (Potomac, MD)

I find January tough. I hate being cold and I hate spending a lot of time inside the house, so there’s that. But January is also my slow season and, while ideally it’s nice to have downtime, I never know what to do with myself and I start to doubt everything - my parenting, my business, my photography. Ugh.
Usually I use this time to dive into personal projects, but as my kids get older they no longer want to be the main focus of my attention and my camera, which has been a little hard for me to adjust to (but I’m trying!)
Oh well, basically what I’m saying is sometimes one needs inspiration to strike. And (luckily!) that’s what happened to me at Glenstone Art Museum.
Have you heard about this place? It’s a FREE (I love free!!) private art museum/sculpture garden in Maryland, with an AMAZING collection of modern art, but tickets are hard to come by. Luckily, I managed to snag two during the week of my birthday. So I took Parker out of school for an afternoon of bonding.
Glenstone was unlike anywhere I’ve ever been. First of all, the grounds are amazing (due to the snow, we couldn’t walk all the trails, but still managed to see some of the sculptures) and bare. Part of Glenstone’s mission is to eliminate crowds, thus allowing you to appreciate the art on your own terms which feels cool and creepy - like you’ve been invited to the house of a multi-millionaire and he’s too busy to talk to you. Even though the museum is in Potomac it feels like you’ve traveled to the middle of nowhere. And the blankets of snow just added to this effect.
Anyways, now I’m feeling inspired (esp. after seeing the Louise Bourgeois exhibit). I can’t wait to go back and explore Glenstone in different seasons.
