12 Happy Things for October
/12 HAPPY THINGS
Happy Fall!! - And if warm blankets, apple picking, and nights without mosquitoes aren’t enough - then here are 12 more things to be happy about:
1. 48 Hour Fall Getaways throughout Virginia. SO MANY OPTIONS! I also want to visit these lesser known fall destinations for adventure.
2. Kate J Baer's poems on instagram are so beautiful. I can't wait for her book.
3. 50 Throwback Recipes that Still Hold Up. I need to try ooey gooey butter cake.
4. I just blogged our summer vacation - backpacking at Pictured Rocks Lakeshore. Click here to check it out.
5. This mural made me all sorts of happy (how could it not?).
6. Tanqueray's 32 part life story on Humans of New York is FASCINATING (though not necessarily “happy”). Read along and then donate.
7. 10 Places for Peace and Calm in DC. Because, with everyone home all the time, I could really use some calm right now.
8. You can now listen to my favorite short story on the New Yorker's fiction podcast. I've loved this story for 19 years, but it seems especially relevant in 2020 and Bryan Washington does a great job reading it.
9. Further, I'm excited to check out these new books.
10. I can't think of a better movie than this to watch right now.
11. Lauren Mitchell's work always inspires me. Especially Space Coast.
12. Ian Weldon is another photographer who inspires me - I heard him speak earlier this year in Dublin (way back in February when you could actually go to conferences and meet people in person) and I love his work (and words). Especially the following quote -
"The wedding industry is driven by trends and fads, whatever's popular at the moment. So, the most popular photographers within wedding photography (are) able to take what's popular and produce a really high-quality product. That's a great thing; there's nothing wrong with that. But for me, that's just commercial photography, it's not really a document of the day. And when we're applying a template to every wedding, and every wedding looks the same, then I don't really feel that the couple is getting anything special from that."
